Sunday 18th July was the date for the BMC North West Area meeting. This time it was a meeting with a difference - less talk and more action! Despite the dire forecast a good sized squad of local climbers turned up, eager to help contribute to the restoration and revitalisation of the hidden gem that is Frogsmouth Quarry.
Another batch of routes were fitted with replacement lower off's and bolts, and this work is now well over halfway to completion. Vegetation around the crag base was strimmed back and about 6 sack loads of litter were collected and disposed off.
The wet weather meant that installing bolts wasn't possible on the day on some routes, so there is more work to be done here. One more work day is planned in around a month or so's time which should hopefully finish the job. Locals will then have the full spectrum to choose from: bouldering/solo's at Pex, trad hairyness at Helsby and bolted routes at Frogsmouth.
The few existing trad lines at Frogsmouth have been left in their original state for the brave and talented. Meanwhile it is worth noting that whilst the bolted routes have been equiped with excellent quality bolts, these are still well spaced on some routes. If you live in the area and have never been, go and check the place out - you'll be pleasantly suprised.
