About the Cumbria Bolt Fund
The Cumbria Bolt Fund was rejuvenated in 2007 to help fund the cost of the replacement of protection bolts and lower-offs throughout Cumbria and surrounding areas.
Many of the bolts in Cumbrian crags were placed in the 80's and 90's and are now in a dangerous state and in need of replacement. Some have been replaced however there are many still awaiting attention.
The bolt fund is funded by donations and support form the BMC, you, shops and climbing clubs. Look out for the donation boxes around the area or donate via PayPal.
It is important to control the use of bolts on the crags so in order to bolt a crag it should first be agreed by seeking persmission of the landowner and getting agreement at a local BMC area meeting.
Head over to the Cumbria Bolt Fund's website to find our more about the location of the bolts. ethics, what dangerous bolting looks like and how to seek permission to start bolting more routes.
