BMC Affiliated Clubs that have under 18s as members, or at their meets unaccompanied by their own parent(s) or a specified adult in loco parentis are required to a appoint a Club Youth Officer.

The name of this role is not important.  For instance, some clubs use the title Welfare Officer, or Club Youth Co-ordinator, and so on.  What is important is the role that this person plays in the club.

Training needs
Youth Officers in BMC Affiliated clubs need to attend:

1.  A Safeguarding and Protecting Children workshop.  Formerly these were called Good Practice and Child Protection courses.  This course is an introductory level course.  Many agencies deliver this course and from time to time the BMC put these courses on delivered by a BMC member that is accredited to deliver the course by UK Coaching.  Many local authorities and their Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB) also run such courses and it is worth checking with your local authority whether there are any courses planned or running in your area.  Additionally, UK Coaching also run numerous workshops around the country that are easy to access.  

2. A BMC Time to Listen workshop.  Time to Listen was originally developed by the Child Protection in Sport Unit (CPSU) of the NSPCC.  This training is delivered by the BMC for BMC Affiliated Club Youth Officers.  Details of upcoming courses are posted on the BMC website.
