New funding will guarantee a North Wales coaching network managed by the Outdoor Partnership.
Created in 2005 and funded by the Welsh Assembly Government, the Outdoor Partnership addresses the issue of people living in Wales having limited access to outdoor activities.
This recent funding includes £12,500 from the Wales Council for Voluntary Action and £10,000 from the Millennium Stadium Trust. Last year, thanks to other financial support, 329 volunteers attended National Governing Body courses and skills development training. The volunteers represented 40 outdoor clubs in the region with a combined membership of over 2000 people.
In recognising the achievements of the Outdoor Partnership and the work done by their club volunteers, Alun Ffred Jones, Welsh Assembly Minister for Heritage said that “Volunteers are the life-blood of community clubs and since the establishment of the Outdoor Partnership, over 40 new community outdoor clubs have been established supporting over 200 volunteer leaders and over 2000 members."
"By building and strengthening the local infrastructure the Outdoor Partnership has begun to improve access for local people to experience outdoor activities on their own doorstep and experience the health, social and economic benefits that derive from taking part.”
With the funding now in place, the Outdoor Partnership’s 2010/11 Coach Education Programme will again offer high quality NGB training and access to world class mentoring support. This year they are pleased to announce that we are expanding the programme to include a skiing instructor course.
