The June 2015 issue of the BMC Peak Area newsletter is now online, keeping you informed about what’s happening in the region.

In this issue: Henry Folkard rounds up all the latest access and conservation news from the area – there’s lots going on in both the Dark and White Peak areas; hill walking representative Peter Judd provides an update on developments within the BMC’s national Hill Walking Working Group, as well as encouragement to re-visit some of our most eroded and denuded peatland landscapes, such as Black Hill, which have benefitted from the restoration work undertaken by the Moors for the Future partnership; and there’s an obituary for Ron Townsend, founder member of the Peak Climbing Club, one of the foremost gritstone climbers in the post-war era, and a friend to many people.

The next Peak Area Meeting is on Wednesday 3 June 2015, starting at 8.00pm, at the Winking Man Pub, Buxton Road, Upper Hulme, Staffordshire ST13 8UH.

Come along to our regular gathering of Peak climbers and walkers, to discuss the latest issues and get involved in the work of the BMC. This month's meeting starts a little bit later, so there's time to get in a walk or climb beforehand. We're even putting on a guided walk.

Roaches guided walk and refreshments at the hut
Peter and Cath, our two hill walking representatives, will lead a guided walk around The Roaches area ending at The Don Whillans Memorial Hut. Meet at the south end of the Roaches at the Roaches Gate by the car parking lay-by (SK 004 621) to start walking at 6.30pm. The hut will be open from 7.00pm for a nosey around and a cup of tea/coffee, and of course...cake.

Bring some cash
We’ll have Stanage stickers, Life of a Mountain DVDs and copies of the brand spanking new Peak Limestone North guidebook available to purchase on the evening.

The area meetings are run by volunteers and are your chance to join in with debate and influence decisions about what happens in the Peak and rest of the country.

Free supper provided by the BMC. All are welcome.

See the BMC Local Areas site for more details about the meeting
