The BMC has set up a Clubs Working Group (CWG) specifically to address issues and concerns that clubs face. The Group is composed of Club Members of the BMC and one Individual Member.
The group met in August and will meet twice during September 2008. It is Chaired by BMC Vice-President Rab Carrington (CC, FRCC).
Topics under discussion will include representation within the BMC, service provision, office support and subscriptions.
After each meeting of the CWG the BMC sends all club secretaries of BMC Affiliated Clubs a summary of the meeting.
Complementing the work of the CWG, the BMC is also commissioning an independent review of all technical support documents for clubs and running a legal workshop for clubs on 18th October 2008. This will be an opportunity for Clubs to debate issues of common concern and to receive expert legal input on the spot, on issues such as:
• Club constitution
• Membership policies
• Dealing with grievances / complaints
• Legal status of clubs
• Insurance & liability
For clubs that have huts there will be a BMC Huts Seminar, also on 18th October 2008. This seminar enables clubs with mountain huts to discuss key issues and share information.
Additionally, the BMC will be holding an annual Technical Seminar for clubs from 2009 onward.
