Contenders of the BBCs 2022
It's so hard to choose just six contenders as our athletes' abilities keep accelerating year after year! We've pared down the lists but be sure, there are many names not here that have a huge chance of making finals and maybe even taking the title. Special mention goes to former champ Dave 'The Don' Barrans, who will be competing at his 17th BBCs! We've chosen some favourites and some dark horses as well, so here ya go, the contenders of the BBCs 2022:
Women:
Men:
Max Milne
He's the reigning champ and has been smashing it on the international stage, winning silver at the IFSC Boulder World Cup in Brixen, Italy. He's surely the favourite to win again this year, but not without a fight!
Nathan Phillips
Having won the 2018 and 2019 BBCs, Nathan couldn't quite make it a hat-trick in 2021 but we know he'll be looking for redemption. He's been competing internationally and now he's fresh back from a Rocklands trip with his partner Tara and is ready to give it his all.
Jim Pope
Now of YouTube fame as a regular on the Wedge Climbing channel, Jim has always been one of GB Climbing's best and will be firing on all cylinders when he takes to the mats in front of the home crowd.
Alex Waterhouse
In his own words, Alex has a chip on his shoulder about the BBCs. He made finals in 2018 but since then has been heartbreaking close, falling short by just one spot in not only the 2021 BBCs, but also in 2019. Can he make finals again to have a chance at taking the crown this time?
Hamish McArthur
With not just one, but two Youth World Championship titles to his name, as well as a lot of experience from the international circuit this year, Hamish will be looking to take the title off his best buddy Max Milne!
Will Bosi
He's just recently climbed what might be the Peak District's hardest boulder problem, Honey Badger, which he proposed a grade of 8C+ for! Can Will translate his incredible outdoor strength to plastic? We think he's in with a shout!
Billy Ridal
Okay, we did it again, we can't leave Billy out! He's been in the finals for the past two championships, he just keeps getting stronger and he's been accumulating experience on the international circuit. We think he'll definitely make finals again this year but will he take the crown?
