With less than a month to go until the BMC’s first ever Leading Ladder ‘grand final’, competitors are battling it out at the last venue (Leeds Wall) to try and qualify.
The final will take place on Saturday 29 March at the brand new venue Awesome Walls Stockport and is supported by outdoor retailer Snow + Rock, so come along and cheer on the competitors.
There is still time to qualify for the final and get more score sheets in. And if you needed anymore encouragement to get into the final, we will be running a raffle for prizes at the end of the day, so everybody who turns up to compete is in with a chance of getting a prize. Grand final entrants will also receive a free t-shirt to climb in on the day.
Letters to the successful finalists will be sent out by the BMC on 10 March and we will invite the top 15 climbers from the eight categories to come along to the national final in Stockport. The full list of finalists will be posted in the news section aslo on 10 March.
This event is a UK first for the BMC and with Awesome Walls Stockport newly opened, the event has the promise of being relaxed and enjoyable.
The day will run on the same format as the British Lead Climbing Competition (BLCC); everybody will climb two qualifiers which are demonstrated by the routesetters, the finals will revert to onsight with six minutes observation.
There will be a lot of new faces to the competition therefore the emphasis will be on fun and encouragement.
There will be prizes for the top three in each category and trophies for the winners. These will be presented at the end by Steve McClure and Gareth Parry. Gareth will also be providing the competition with a commentary throughout the day, as the compere.

Please note:
An added incentive for people who would like to climb in the final is that there is a possibility we may select competitors who have climbed in two rounds rather than the stated three. As this was the first year of running this event, we are finding that not all the leading ladder criteria are proving practicable. So if you would like to qualify into the final, then try to get to two events and get the best scores you can. But of course priority will be given to all competitors who have climbed in three or more.
Here are the venue details for the final on 29 March:
Awesome Walls Stockport, The Engine House, Pear Mill, Stockport Rd West, Lower Bredbury, Stockport, SK6 2BP. See the website www.awesomewalls.co.uk
There will be FREE entry to all spectators and hot food and drink will be available in the cafe all day.
