With one round remaining of the Senior category of the British Bouldering Championships, reigning champion Andy Earl heads the men’s rankings, whilst in the women’s event Audrey Seguy is tied for first place with reigning champion Sabine Bacher.
The first round, held at Edinburgh’s Ratho in late January, saw World Cup regulars Earl, Mark Croxall and Gareth Parry beaten by visiting Dutch climber Walter Jongeneelen and Martin Smith, returning after a long-term injury. Round 2 was held at the weekend at Blackburn’s Boulder UK. With Jongeneelen absent, Earl’s win took him to the top of the rankings, and Parry’s second place pushed him up to third. Smith held on to second spot with his third place finish at Blackburn. In the women’s event, Bacher beat Seguy at Ratho, and the positions were reversed at Boulder UK, although a tie in the Final meant they could only be separated by their qualifying positions.
Others still in contention for the title include Kate Mills and Emma Twyford.
