The Stanage Festival saw a good turnout despite some slightly British weather with masterclasses, climbing challenge, BBQ and lecture well attended.
The BMC Stanage Festival took place over the weekend of the 28 and 29 June, with well attended social events and walking and climbing enjoyed by many.
Masterclasses
Masterclasses with Naomi Buys, Pete Whittaker and Katherine Schirrmacher took place as planned, with participants persevering through some damp, midgy conditions to get the most out of their sessions.
Stanage Challenge
Local volunteer Steve Clark devised a points-based climbing challenge which proved popular on the day. Teams picked up extra points for ascending geographically diverse and esoteric routes, with added bonuses for ingenious themes and fancy dress. Four teams scored in excess of 300 points, climbing 12 no-start routes over the entire length of Stanage to acheive this. Several people commented that they would not have got out climbing in such challenging conditions if not encouraged by this element of the festival.
High scoring teams:
Led walks
Peak District National Park Authority rangers and BMC volunteer Margi Bryant braved the showery weather and midges to lead a walk along Stanage on Saturday 28. PDNPA rangers also led a 10 mile walk on Sunday 29, discussing the climbing history of the Eastern Edges.
Lecture
Thanks to Jordan Buys for his entertaining and well attended lecture at the Outside Cafe.
Volunteers
A massive thankyou to all of those who gave up their time to make the event happen.
The BMC Stanage Festival 2014 was supported by Wild Country.
