130 young climbers turned up to compete at the BMC Open Youth Competition at Awesome Walls, Liverpool on 28th November.

Awesome walls opened its doors very early on Saturday morning to a huge number of very eager young climbers, some of whom were climbing in their first competition. Everybody was massively keen to climb, have fun and maybe secure themselves a spot on the British Junior Climbing Team!

The competition got off to a fast paced start with all the competitors climbing two qualifying routes, and 10 climbers from each of the 8 categories going through to the final.

The final routes were set on the fiercesomely steep main wall of Awesome Walls and even the youngest competitors seemed to be hanging aorund in the overhangs for what seemed like an age. However in the end we had 8 winners and prizes were provided by Awesome Walls and V12 Outdoors, who had just opened their shop at the centre that day!

A great vote of thanks must go to the guys at Awesome Walls and all the volunteers that helped on the day for making the event a great success. So successful in fact that beacuse we had so many young climbers so keen to compete and have fun the BMC hopes to run more similar events in the 2010.
