The current lockdown is a grim start to 2021 and with lots of young people off school, college or out of work we’ve set up a few free lectures to try and offset a pretty naff start to a year and to checkout some climbing, walking, volunteer and career opportunities that will still be here when this pandemic has ended.

27th January : Emma Twyford's Secrets!
Emma is the first UK woman to climb F9a, Wales’ hardest sport route: The Big Bang . She has also climbed some of the hardest trad routes around and is also a route setter and climbing coach She’ll be talking about her roots in the Lake District, pulling really hard and a bit about who she climbs with.
3rd February : Engaging young people into the outdoors
Rehna Yaseen is a Youth, community worker and outdoor instructor for an outdoor charity called Lindley Educational Trust . Based in Greater Manchester and the Peak District. Rehna's personal journey on being a participant of a youth project years ago exposed her to the outdoors and impacted her current career choice. Rehna will give an inside look into the work that Ashton Youth Club (AYC) does with young people particularly from disadvantaged backgrounds and the long term impact that the work and outdoors has on them.
9th February : Climbing for all Sheffield. An Inclusive Climbing Club
Robin Whittaker will give a talk on why Climbing for all Sheffield was created and some of the great opportunities it has offered people. Climbing for All Sheffield is a registered charity which was set up to help children, young people and adults with a wide range of disabilities enjoy climbing, and be visible and included in the climbing community in Sheffield.
17th February : Climbing, Walking and Careers Opportunities
James Mchaffie will give a talk about climbing and walking in the UK and abroad as well as looking at some of the varied career opportunities that can be found in the outdoor industries. James is the BMC's Youth and Equity Officer and a BMC Climbing Ambassador.

Youth Outdoor Climbing Courses
Whether you want to make the leap from indoor climbing into Sport or Trad climbing outdoors, we run many courses across the country and throughout the year that are specially for 11-17 year olds.
Subsidised Youth Course Places
There are a large number of free places on courses for families who may struggle to afford it. Any families who live in rented accommodation and who receive income support or universal credit may contact the instructor of a course or Alex West for a place.
