What's the BMC doing to support talent?

Find out what happens at the BMC National Academies for talented young climbers.

The BMC delivers a range of programs to support the development of talented young climbers. These include our coach education workshops, an online talk launched this year, and the Regional and National Academies.

In January 2016 we held two National Academies hosted by The Depot Manchester and The Project in Poole. These days were led by a team of coaches including GB Junior Bouldering Team managers and coaches Tom Greenall, Lucinda Whittaker and Tim Cunnington, and south west coach Cailean Harker.

At January's academies, the focus was on the many non-climbing-specific attributes that contribute to young talented climbers becoming well-balanced and robust athletes.

The children were made aware of what it takes to develop their climbing to its full potential; be that as a GB team climber, to climb outside, or both.

Parents were invited to join workshops so they could learn about guarding against over-specialised training and aiding injury prevention.
