Wastwater voted Britain's top view

Wastwater, Cumbria

From lakes, hills, cliffs and mountains to cityscapes and panoramas of outstanding natural beauty, Britain's favourite view has now been chosen. Wastwater in the Lake District won the public vote in last night's final of ITV's Britain's Favourite View series hosted by Trevor MacDonald.

There's no doubt that the mountains surrounding Wastwater - including Red Pike, Kirk Fell, Great Gable and England's highest mountain Scafell Pike - make the view over Wastwater so awe-inspiring.

Judges spent a year whittling Britain's beautiful spots down to a shortlist of 16 which were each backed by celebrity advocates for the ITV series.  The runners-up were Bamburgh Castle in northumberland, Strangford Lough in County Down, Northern Ireland and Three Cliffs Bay on the Gower Peninsula in Wales.

To accompany the series, VisitBritian has produced a website which acts as a guide to 'Britain's favourite views'.  Visit the website at www.britainsviews.com
