In the latest episode of Wild Horizons, Rose Gare Simmons tells us all about Blencathra, one of the northernmost fells in the Lake District, majestically overlooking the A66.
Rose is the nationally elected Councilor for Hillwalkers with the BMC and seeks out peace and wellbeing in wild uplands and her love for the mountains is obvious to anyone who meets her or follows her adventures on Instagram at rose.marie.outdoors.
But her appreciation of the outdoors goes far beyond her own wellbeing. In 2020 Rose and her partner Scott established NavTrek, a training academy aimed at providing people with the skills and confidence to safely access outdoor spaces.
A commitment to supporting others to access the same special places that Rose gets to led to her setting up Wellbeing Walks, a charitable venture that seeks to take people across all abilities into the outdoors in order to find the chance to walk, talk, think and reflect and to feel the nourishment of wilderness, a nourishment the Rose feels is crucial in today’s world.
Her experience of leading people in the outdoors then led naturally to Rose enrolling in the Mountain Leaders scheme and later getting her ML award. We hear all about the process, challenges and rewards of this journey.
So settle back, unwind, and let Rose Gare Simmons lead us up the flanks and ridges of Blencathra.
