BMC President Lynn Robinson provides an update on a busy and successful second half of 2019.
In addition to chairing National Council meetings and working with the Board of Directors, the ongoing work of the Organisational Development Group has made good progress thanks to regular meetings and conference calls. Important elements of this ‘behind the scenes’ work have included:
-
Chairing three National Council meetings (June, September and December 2019) and associated planning, preparation and work. In addition, we’ve held two National Council webinars (January and February) covering specific topics.
-
Ongoing detailed work with oversight of the Organisational Development Group (ODG) work streams 5 – 8 (Governance; Policy; Partnerships; Member Engagement).
-
Regular conference calls with the ODG sub-group which is developing proposals for the reconstitution of National Council.
-
Initial planning for the 2020 BMC AGM, which will be held on Saturday 13 June.
-
Working with the Board of Directors to ensure that it seeks approval or considers the views of National Council on Reserved Matters, and in partnership with the Board for the greater good of the BMC.
-
Launching the 2020 Volunteer Recognition Scheme, and continuing to work on the development of the BMC Volunteering Strategy.
I really enjoy attending BMC events and supporting the volunteers who make them happen, as well as representing the BMC at other events and meetings in which we are partners or stakeholders, and I’ve had the opportunity to attend and support numerous events, including:
-
Association of British Climbing Walls AGM and Annual Conference (June)
-
Rendezvous Haute Montagne women’s climbing meet, Langdale (July)
-
BMC British Bouldering Championships (July)
-
Black Dog Outdoors walk in Snowdonia (July)
-
Women’s Trad Festival (August)
-
BMC Gower Climbing Festival (September)
-
BMC British Lead & Speed Climbing Championships (September)
-
Glen Brittle Memorial Hut AGM (September)
-
IFSC European Climbing Championships, Ratho (October)
-
Kendal Mountain Festival (November)
-

-
