Survive a Career in Adventure Activities

Posted by Jon Garside on 05/02/2007

A new booklet providing advice and pointers for surviving a career in adventure activities has just been published.

Within the last decade there has been an increase both in the level of participation in adventure activities and those who seek a career in this field. But there is a downside. Imagine being unable to walk up a hill because your knees are worn out, unable to paddle due to chronic ear problems, unable to sail because of permanent back injury. Some instructors can no longer contemplate such activities due to a serious accident at work. Better working practices would have helped many to avoid these problems.

With these issues in mind, this booklet has been published by the Adventure Activities Industry Advisory Committee (AAIAC),  the Central Council of Physical Recreation (CCPR), the Institute for Outdoor Learning (IOL) and SkillsActive. They hope to ensure sustainable working conditions by raising awareness amongst both employers and employees.
