The Reach Climbing Wall

An exciting new venue for climbers opened in January 2010. On the Thames in Greenwich between the Thames Barrier and the Woolwich Ferry, The Reach promises to be among the largest walls in London.

Indoor climbing is one of the nation’s fastest-growing sports and the demand for top quality climbing venues is very high. The Reach provides such a venue, with impressive 11 metre high climbing structures and extensive bouldering areas as exciting challenges which will appeal to both experienced climbers and beginners. In addition, this summer a specialist wall for disabled climbers will be opened.

The Reach is the brainchild of business partners Brenda Sanderson and Amos Richardson who have worked in social enterprise for 15 years running highly successful outdoor and adventure courses for schools and youth groups in and around London.

Amos Richardson said: "We wanted to make the wall visually thrilling. Crispin Waddy, our wall designer, has helped us to construct a climbing space that is both bold and varied, with a series of interlocking buttresses joined with arches.’’

The Reach has highly qualified instructors and offers courses for those new to climbing as well as improvers. Individual tuition and tailored courses for schools and youth organizations can also be provided.

The next 18 months will be dedicated to extending the climbing areas taking on board customer feedback. The Reach aims to double in size by 2012 and promises to be one of London's finest indoor climber centres.

This is a great place to meet new people and take up a sport that develops both fitness and confidence. There is a cafe on site and a climbing shop will be opening soon. The staff are friendly and helpful and clients are encouraged to offer comments and suggestions to improve their individual climbing experience.

Introductory courses are currently free until March 31st 2010, on payment of entry fees only. The introductory course is 2 x 3hr sessions run on consecutive evenings or weekend mornings. All equipment is provided.
