Quay Climbing Centre opens in Exeter

Exeters first climbing wall - The Quay Climbing Centre opened its doors for the first time recently.

Over 1300sq mtrs of wall, the wall with a beginners area starting at 8mtrs, although in the beginners area, there are some high graded routes set in amongst the 3/4/5/s. Within this area there is a True Blue auto belay.

Seperating this area and the intermediate wall is a purpose built abseil tower, with internal access to the top. The intermediate area has both top rope/auto belay and lead climbs ranging from 4+ up to high 6's, with slabs/vertical and small roofs leading into the main arch.

Between the intermediate area and main prow, is the archway, this has a mixture of vertical/small roofs and the arched roof. The main wall at the heighest point is 14.9 mtrs with an impressive 4 mtr overhang. There are plenty of small roofs/ verticals and slab routes in this area aswell.

In the main wall area with have more True Blue auto belays.

There are 2 boulder rooms both around the same size, one has a 10 degree training wall and the other a 40.

The Quay offers a cafe, gear hire, showers, changing rooms, and runs NICAS.
