May 2015 sees the launch of the latest BMC guidebook, Peak Limestone North. This gives coverage to the crags in the northern area of the Peak – Stoney Middleton, Water-cum-Jolly, Chee Dale, Raven Tor, Ravensdale, Harpur Hill, Smalldale and may more besides. As a new development for BMC guides, some aspects of this book have been moved online. This is a page to direct you to these online resources.
The main thing that has been moved online is the First Ascent List. Decisions such as this were not taken lightly, as this list provides a fascinating historical context for the routes you have done or aspire to. However, as guidebooks hold ever more information, and as topos become bigger and more useful, and as the demand for high-quality action shots grows, then something has to be done to stop the book that you carry to the crag or up the route from becoming overly large.
Hence the online First Ascents List. As it stands, this first ascent list has run to 79 pages, which would have significantly increased the bulk of the book in your back pocket. It is also hoped that this can allow first ascent information, a notoriously changeable series of “facts”, to be more dynamic and updatable as new information comes along.

The other information moved online are detailed guides to poor-quality and unvisited crags, crags that have become dangerous or overgrown or there are insurmountable access difficulties. Again, this provides a significant saving on the bulk of the book while still keeping the historical record of Peak climbing development.
