The first two volumes of a new series of guidebooks to the Pembrokeshire coast have now been published by the Climbers’ Club.
There are now as many recorded rock climbs on the Pembrokeshire coast as in the whole of Snowdonia. The bulk of these are on the popular steep limestone sea cliffs of the South Coast – in particular Range East, easily accessible from the village of Bosherton. The Climbers’ Club is publishing a series of five definitive volumes to cover the whole area, including the more remote, often quieter cliffs formed by the varied gabbros, dolerites and sandstones of the North Coast.
Volume 1: Pembroke North - Cardigan Bay to Milford Haven
Volume 2: Range West - Milford Haven to Perimeter Bays
Volume 3: Range East - Stack Rocks to Hollow Caves Bay
Volume 4: Range East - Saddle Head to St Govan’s
Volume 5: Stackpole & Lydstep - Broadhaven to Saundersfoot Bay
The guidebooks covering Range East have now been published. Each volume contains over 300 pages of text, full colour photodiagrams, action shots and line plans, so you won’t have any excuse for getting lost or not being enthused.
Range East - Stack Rocks to Hollow Caves Bay (Vol. 3)
From the sombre cliffs and stacks near the Green Bridge of Wales via the imposing Mewsford Point all the way to Hollow Caves Bay this guidebook has it all: the sunny and open Crystal Slabs and Crickmail Point; the serious cliffs of the Stack Rocks area and the Cauldron; the variety of the Castle with routes from VD to E7; and, if you want to get your kit off, there’s even some DWS.
Range East: Saddle Head to St. Govan’s (Vol. 4)
Over 1,000 routes between VD and E10 all within 15 minutes flat walk of the car park, what more could you want? Within its covers this guidebook includes the stupendous cleft of Huntsman’s Leap, the stunning west wall of Stennis Ford, and the more amenable Saddle Head and Stennis Head. Closer to the car park are the contiguous cliffs of Trevallen and St Govan’s, easily accessible, south-facing and with fabulous rock. For those who fancy something a little different, there is also a multitude of DWS.
