The GB Junior Lead Climbing Team is pleased to announce that Rebecca Dent has taken over as one of the assistant managers, following the departure of Ruth Dunne after December's BMC Open Youth Event.

The junior team management has been restructured with Ian Dunn taking overall management responsibility for the team and coaching. There will be two assistant managers; John Ellison, currently the parents' representative, will be responsible for rules and marketing;  Rebecca Dent will be responsible for nutrition, health welfare and pastoral advice.

The team and management is delighted to welcome Rebecca on board, and would also like to thank the previous assistant manager, Ruth Dunne, for all her hard work and wish her well for the future.

Rebecca is a performance nutritionist and dietician with over ten years combined experience working in the healthcare sector along with elite GB / Olympic level athletes. She started her sporting nutrition career in 2006 at the British Ski Academy in Chamonix providing pastoral care and nutrition advice to the youth skiers.  She went on to work at the Sport Scotland Institute of Sport (SIS) supporting athletes towards, and at, the Vancouver Winter Olympics in February 2010.

In July 2011 Rebecca left the SIS to further her career as a freelance consultant working within sports that she is passionate about. As one of the assistant managers for the GB Junior Lead Climbing Team, she will provide nutrition, health and welfare support and attend competitions as one of the chaperones. She  will also continue her role of providing performance nutrition support to the GB Senior Bouldering Team.

The junior team management is looking forward to a busy, and hopefully successful 2013 season, with the first event, the IFSC European Youth Cup at the EICA Ratho on 8-9 June.

The Junior British Leading Team is supported by Sherpa Adventure Gear and NICAS.

Isn't all this going to be a bit much for John Ellison? Parents representative, assistant Team Manager as well as all his work for CAC, which is taking him all over the world to promote his cause. All this and fighting for his life against terminal cancer.
The BMC needs to be careful it doesn't get accused of taking advantage of its volunteers.
I hope all this work and stress does not compromise Johns health.

John and the Team Management have discussed this at length, and John will be the first to let us know if he needs support, or can't continue. John really enjoys being busy and having good things to look forward to, despite having a terminal illness. Being involved as an Assistant Manager will actually be no more than he has been contributing for the last 3 years and at present he feels he can contribute fully. Obviously if the situation changes we will adapt.

Can anyone tell me if her expertise extends to the whole of the Junior Team to include the Bouldering?

In answer t the comment regarding the Junior Bouldering Team, I think that with all Rebecca's commitments for The Junior Lead Team and Senior Bouldering there would be pressious little time left to have any involvement in the Junior Bouldering Team, however I am sure she would be prepared to chat to competitors at events where they were present eg Youth Opens.
