West View Leisure Centre in Preston have had some recent exciting additions to their existing climbing facilities, with a new dedicated disability/beginner climbing area to cater for its regular disability groups and younger climbers.

A new overhanging competition wall has been introduced in place of the original concrete bouldering wall to provide its users with more steep angled lead climbing lines. An additional dedicated bouldering cave has provided the centre with more bouldering surface with easier angles for young people and people new to bouldering as well as a new campus board for all those campusing enthusiasts.

The new wall, designed and installed by Enterprise Climbing Walls Ltd, was funded by The Lancashire Children’s Prevention Fund, The University of Central Lancashire, Preston City Council and The School Sports Partnership, who together provided the centre with a budget of £80,000. Members from each organisation formed a panel to discuss their individual needs on how the existing walls could be improved. Consensus among the panel was a key focus around climbing for the disabled as well as a more advanced lead climbing wall. EP Ltd designs met all the requirements of the members on the panel and so were awarded the contract.

The new walls have been open for just over a month and have provided the centre with a complete new image with fantastic responses from its users.
