The Reach in South London is pleased to announce the launch of a spectacular new area of climbing wall. Funded by the London Marathon Charitable Trust, the 16 metre long fiendish roof overhang is a unique addition to the London Indoor Climbing Scene.
The wall opened on the 14 October, with routes from 6a+ to 8a set by Tricky (Rich Hudson) and Alex Fry. Over 200 people turned up and a good time was had by all, The Reach’s youth squad managed the 6c routes with their usual insouciance. Cindy Gabbett smashed 5 routes in one session and won a month’s pass for her efforts.
There will be a full Launch at the Reach annual competition on the 28 November, with a 20 metre eliminator route specially set for the day and a prize to be won.
80's theme competition
Now in its fifth year, the comp. attracts over 300 competitors and is great fun for all ages and climbing ability. This year the theme will be the ‘1980s’ – expect big hair, big shoulders, legwarmers and glitter balls.
Prizes are available for all levels of ability. However, there will be spectacular bouldering and lead eliminator climbs for the biggest prizes. The comp has been sponsored by numerous climbing companies, including Lyon Equipment, Camp, Core climbing, Entre-Prises and Plastic Heroes. We’re also giving away copies of books and DVDs by Johnny Dawes who, as we all know, made a big difference to the climbing scene in the 80s.
10am, 28 November at The Reach Climbing Wall, Unit 6 Mellish Estate, SE18 5NR. Cost £13 (£8 for under 18s) includes a free T Shirt.
The competition is sponsored by Makak and Savage Outdoors.
