Discover the latest news and key developments in the Indian Himalaya with Apex, the recently launched newsletter of the Indian Mountaineering Federation (IMF).

The IMF is the apex Indian body for organising, supporting and providing a base to expeditions for mountaineering, skiing, rock climbing and high altitude trekking within the Indian Himalaya.

Over the years, The Indian Mountaineer, the IMF’s annual journal has played an important role in recording reports of key climbs in the Indian Himalaya. The newsletter will support this effort by conveying recent developments and news of interest to the adventure community in India and around the world. Apart from recent expedition and trek reports, it will carry news from the IMF, a section on future expeditions, and information on recent book releases.

In Volume 1 of Apex:

• Mick Fowler talks about the first ascent of the north-east face of Hagshu (6515m), the highest peak in the East Kishtwar region of Jammu & Kashmir;
• Martin Moran describes his team’s first ascent of Cheepaydang (6220m) - the Peacock Peak - in the Adi Kailash range, Eastern Kumaon; the range presents excellent prospects for further exploration;
• Sayantan Dutta recounts an ascent of the challenging south ridge of Mt Manirang (6593m), the highest peak in the Spiti Valley, Himachal Pradesh; and
• Sujoy Das relates his team’s trek to the magnificent Green Lake (4935m) in North Sikkim, whcih afforded them spectacular views of Siniolchu, Little Siniolchu, Simvu, Kangchenjunga, the Twins and Nepal peak.

There’s also a special feature on climbing and trekking opportunities in the captivating Ralam Valley, Kumaon Himalaya, reports on the second edition of the three-day Adventure@Mechukha Festival and  the 2014 National Sport Climbing Championship, and news about plans to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first Indian ascent of Everest.
