Discover the latest news and developments in the Indian Himalaya with volume three of Apex, the newsletter of the Indian Mountaineering Foundation.

The Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) is the apex Indian body for organising, supporting and providing a base to expeditions for mountaineering, skiing, rock climbing and high altitude trekking within the Indian Himalaya.

Over the years, The Indian Mountaineer, the IMF’s annual journal has played an important role in recording reports of key climbs in the Indian Himalaya. The newsletter, launched last year, will support this effort by conveying recent developments and news of interest to the adventure community in India and around the world.

In this issue, you’ll find:

• An account by Slovenian alpinist Matija Jost of his and Anastasija Davidova's first ascents of Khumchu Ri (6064m), Kun Long Ri (6058m) and Ri Pok Te (6210m) in the Raru valley, Zanskar region of Jammu & Kashmir.
• A report by Tarun Saikia of his team’s expedition to White Needle (6600m), also in the Zanskar Himalaya. This arduous climb had last been climbed 26 years ago.Seven of the 14-member team were able to summit.
• A report by Bhanu Pratap Singh, 2nd-in-command, Indo Tibetan Border Police, of his 17-member team’s first ascent of Mt. Khimling Top (6200m). Two climbers and two high altitude porters summited this challenging virgin peak located in Darma valley in the Kumaon region of the Greater Himalaya.
• A photo-feature by Rijul Gill, ‘Living with the Gaddis’, which depicts the fascinating and extremely tough lives of the Gaddi shepherds in the mountains north of Dharamshala, Gill’s home city.
• A special feature on IMF and volunteer efforts to clean up the Indian Himalaya.
• Reports of the Asian Youth Championships and National Sport Climbing Championships.
• Previews of the 2016 IMF Mountain Movie Festival and Climbathon events, as well as the IFSC Climbing World Cup, India’s first world cup bouldering competition.
