Discover the latest news and developments in the Indian Himalaya with volume four of Apex, the newsletter of the Indian Mountaineering Foundation.

The Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) is the apex Indian body for organising, supporting and providing a base to expeditions for mountaineering, skiing, rock climbing and high altitude trekking within the Indian Himalaya.

Over the years, The Indian Mountaineer, the IMF’s annual journal has played an important role in recording reports of key climbs in the Indian Himalaya. The newsletter, launched last year, will support this effort by conveying recent developments and news of interest to the adventure community in India and around the world.

In the November 2016 issue:

• Award-winning British mountaineer Mick Fowler talks about his and Victor Saunders’ climb of Sersank peak (6050m) in the Himachal Pradesh Himalaya; this was a first ascent from the virgin North Face of the peak;
• Martin Moran, the acclaimed British mountaineer and guide talks about his team’s climbs in the Miyar Valley, Garhwal Himalaya; these included first ascents of Vishnu Killa (5968m) and Marakula Killa (5755m) peaks;
• Romanian climber Cosmin Andron recounts his first ascent of T16 (6341m) in theZanskar Himalaya, Jammu & Kashmir, along with his fellow climber Cristina Pogacean; Prerna Dangi and Karn Kowshik also accompanied him in this alpine style expedition;
• British mountaineer Malcolm Bass gives an account of his and Guy Buckingham's climb of Mt. Gangstang (6163m) in the Himachal Pradesh Himalaya; this was a first ascent of the peak by the North West ridge and Malcolm talks about the many aspects of this challenge.
• Karn Kowshik recounts his team’s Alpine style expedition to Peak Z1 (6050m) in the Zanskar Himalaya; the three-member team had to abandon their attempt on this highly technical peak due to bad weather conditions;
• A photo-feature by Sankar Sridhar about his exploratory trek in the recently opened Nelang Valley in the remote border district of Uttarkashi in the Garwhal Himalaya; plus
• the latest news and reports on IMF activities and events, and information about the latest book and film releases on the Indian Himalaya.
