BMC Area Youth Coordinator (AYC) for Yorkshire Area, Anne Chevalier is organising an informal walk for parents and children on Sunday 5th June.
Aims:
-
To go on a walk
-
To meet other parents and their children
-
To make friends and contacts
-
To visit somewhere new
Who: parents and their children
Date: Sunday 5th June
Time: Meet 10am
Place: By the bridge, Middleton Avenue, Ilkley
Cost: Free
This is for parents and their children who want to go on a walk and who might also want to meet other people in a similar situation and make new contacts.
As it is an informal event there is no booking procedure. Simply turn up on the day and Anne will be there to lead the walk.
Meet at 10am where Middleton Avenue and New Brook Street join, just past the bridge over the river in Ilkley. Here a sign indicates disabled access to the riverbank and parents and children can wait on the grass, off the road. There is also ample free parking on either side of the road at this point.
Anyone wanting to leave their car at home might consider using public transport as there is a good train service from either Leeds or Bradford with trains every half hour.
The walk will be about 8.5 miles long and will start by going along the south side of the river to Hallcroft Hall and up the hill towards Addingham Moorside. From there we'll reach Ilkley Moor, pass Swastika stone (either Bronze or Iron Age rock carving) and stopping at White Wells where, if the flags are flyng, we'll be able to have a drink and a snack while enjoying the beautiful view of the Wharf valley.
There is also a visitor centre that describes the history of the well and Ilkley as a spa town. From there we'll return to the town centre passing the Millenium garden.
For each person attending please bring: a packed lunch, drinks, waterproof/windproof and warm clothing, hat, gloves and footwear suitable for walking over rough and perhaps muddy ground. If the weather is looking unsettled, remember it can be very cold up on the Moor.
