It was National Family Week between 30 May - 5 June 2011 and BMC Yorkshire Area Youth Coordinator Anne Chevalier organised an informal walk for parents and children around Ilkley and its famous moor.
Sunday 5th June started with light rain but by 10am, when people met at the bridge over the river in picturesque Ilkley, the sun was out and spirits were high.
The walk initially threaded its way through fields and lanes and eventually on to the famous Ilkley Moor itself with fabulous views over the valley below.
The walk was arranged on an informal basis so that parents could simply turn up on the day with their children. Despite the initial early rain, the arrangements worked well and a good mix of people from a range of Nationalities turned up to enjoy the exercise, the company and the views.
The day ended with successful completions of The Millennium Maze in Darwin Gardens, Millennium Green.
Shortly after everyone had started to make their way home the rain returned; but by then most people were too tired to care.
The BMC would like to say a great big thank you to Anne for organising the walk.
She is planning more informal events, including a day's rock climbing, so keep checking the BMC website for more information.
