GB Junior Bouldering Team storm to dramatic 2014 season climax

Posted by Tina Gardner on 12/09/2014

The GB Junior Bouldering Team has yet again proved its potential in its European campaign, as William Bosi takes silver in Langenfeld and Dominic Vincent bronze in Arco. Junior Bouldering Team manager and coach Tom Greenall reports.

Following an exceptional start to the 2014 European Youth Bouldering Cup season in L’Argentiere France, the GB Junior Bouldering Team continued their great form in Langenfeld, Austria and Arco, Italy.

The outfit for both competitions was incredibly strong featuring an almost full strength squad across the two competitions. In total 22 athletes from all around the UK were represented across the final two rounds.

William Bosi, also a strong lead climber, marked his first season in Youth A with a stunning performance in Langenfeld reaching the final before wowing the crowd as he made his first ever silver podium. Will previously took bronze in his first ever bouldering international in Laval in 2013.

Newcomer Dominic Vincent was also in great form in our Youth B male category. Following in the footsteps of William Bosi, he marked his first ever international competition with a magnificent bronze medal to the raputous applause of the crowd in Arco a few weeks later.

“This was the hardest competition I have ever been in but at the same time the most fun. The atmosphere was amazing and the GB teams support helped me get psyched and do my best in the final powered by really nice spaghetti bolognaise. Thanks to the coaches and the team for making my first international such a memorable one”
Donminic Vincent (Youth B European Championships Bronze Medalist)

Special mentions should also go to Tara Hayes, Max Ayrton and Alex Waterhouse who all secured finals spots across the two competitions finishing in 4th, 5th and 6th respectively.

“I was really chuffed to make the final in Langenfeld. All the hard work finally paid off and it was brilliant to go out there in front of the awesome Team GB cheering. I also got to meet Anna Stohr which was pretty inspiring”
Tara Hayes (Youth A Female Finalist, world ranking of 6th)

With multiple athletes now ranked in the top 10 in the world and with athletes receiving medals at every completion this year the GB Team now holds an incredibly impressive track record.

“It was a thoroughly rewarding experience to see all the hard work from behind the scenes once again come to fruition at an international competition. There is great potential in everyone of our athletes and I look forward to helping realize that potential in the years to come.
Lucinda Whittaker (Team Coach and Assistant Manager)
