The 2015 GB Ice Climbing Team is gearing up for the first event of the season in Cheongsong, Korea after being selected off the back of results achieved in the 2014 British Tooling Series
The British Tooling Series started out as the Scottish Tooling Series, but this year organisers Andy Turner and Alan Ellison and brought the series south of the border for the first time.
There were six rounds in the series and the full results from the series can be seen here. The series was a great success, and with support from both the BMC and the Mountaineering Council of Scotland it will run again next year with more venues and rounds in England.
Andy Turner selected the team members based on their results from the series and the full team line-up is:
Senior Team
Matt Pigden
Harry Holmes
Scott Grosdanof
Will Woodhead
Dave Bowes
Katy Forrester
Anna Wells
Youth Team
Emma Powell
Tim Miller
The first to compete will be Scott, Harry and Matt as they are heading out for the second round of the UIAA Ice World Cup in Cheongsong, Korea on the 10-11 January.
Located five hours away from Seoul, Cheongsong County (in North Gyeongsang Province) is Korea’s haven for winter sports.
Cheongsong Eoreumgol Valley (Ice Valley) is considered to be one of the best ice climbing venues in Asia. The competition site includes a spectacular artificial ice climbing wall.
A week later the juniors will be in action at the World Youth Championships in Saas-Fee on the 17-18 January 2015.
