The British Bouldering Championships is being moved to Devonshire Green right in the heart of Sheffield's city centre - the results from this event will be used as part of the selection criteria for the GB Senior Climbing team - some exciting new developments in the team are detailed below.
GB Senior Team
As of immediate effect the Senior GB Bouldering Team and Senior GB Lead Team will become one Senior GB Climbing Team. This will allow management to pool resources, paving the way for us to do a more thorough and effective job both in the pre- and competition season.
As well as supporting world class development and individual performances from athletes we are looking to create and nurture a supportive and cohesive team environment that will grow into the future, so that athletes feel comfortable but that there is also an environment that new members to the team can fit into very easily.
British Bouldering Championships 9-10 July 2016
We will bring you more detailed information in the coming weeks - but now we can tell you that the BBC's will be held at the fantastic city centre venue of Devonshire Green. This will be a completely free to watch event and there will be live music on the stage on Friday and Saturday nights, with the climbing timetable extended into the evening to take advantage of the warm summer weather. Qualifiers will be on Saturday (all day), with Semi-finals starting around lunchtime on the Sunday and the grand final commencing on Sunday evening giving a great showdown performance to end a fantastic weekend of competition climbing.
The BBC's will still be part of the Cliffhanger festival run at three different hubs around the city centre. At Devonshire green there will be a bar, food trucks, slacklining, BMXing and skateboarding all going on around the headline event of the BBC's.
BMC's Competition Officer - Rob Adie said - "Its fantastic that the BBC's will be in the city centre this year - with it being a free to watch event we hope thousands of people will turn up and the atmosphere will be electric! We just need some sunny weather now!"
More information and a full timetable will be published very soon.
For more information on what else is going please go to the Cliffhanger website.
The British Senior Bouldering Climbing Team is supported by the BMC, Berghaus and the Arch Climbing Wall. Many UK walls also support the British Climbing Team through free or subsidised entry.
We want to say a big thanks to every BMC member who continues to support us through the Coronavirus crisis.
From weekly Facebook Lives and GB Climbing home training videos, to our access team working to re-open the crags and fight for your mountain access, we couldn’t do it without you.
