The top 3 competitors from each category will be invited to the Lead National Trials on the 11 & 12 March. Each climber will face three routes, two “qualification level” routes graded between F7c+ - F8a+, and one “semi-final level” route graded between F8a+ - F8b.
All competitors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian, loco parentis can be used where required. Athletes are required to bring their own rope, harness and a belayer (e.g. Home Coach, Parent) , if you are unable to provide a rope or a belayer please let us know prior to the event so we can make arrangements.
Format
There will be no isolation for these routes. Demonstration videos will be provided via a link sent to all athletes, no later than 1 hour prior to the event beginning.
A provisional start list will be published the day before with the official start list being confirmed after registration closes the morning of the event. Athletes will have a minimum break of no less than 50 mins between routes as per the international standard.
Scoring
We will be using the IFSC Olympic Scoring Format to score each route. Each route will score a maximum of 100 points, with scoring values assigned to holds marked on the route Topo in descending order from the last hold marked on the route as set out in .
A) a score of 100 points shall be awarded only where a competitor has both (i) Controlled the scoring hold marked as “TOP” and (ii) clipped the final Protection Point on the route. Where the competitor:
1) controls the scoring hold marked as “TOP” but fails to clip the final protection point on the route, the competitor shall be scored as equal to Using the next lower hold;
2) clips the final protection point from a lower scoring hold, the competitor may continue their attempt, but if they do not continue shall not be scored as having achieved “TOP”.
B) the scoring value for Using a hold (designated by the postfix “+”) will be equal to the scoring value for Controlling the same hold plus a fixed increment of 0.1 points
Final positions will be determined by the sum of all 3 route scores.
