Full house for Stanage guidebook launch

Delighted Neil Foster & Debbie Birch

The new BMC Stanage guidebook got its official unveiling on Friday evening in Sheffield to a packed house of people who have been connected with Stanage and the Stanage guidebook over the years. Everyone was delighted with the new guidebook, saying it may even be the best yet.

The room looked like a who's who of the Sheffield climbing scene with many well known faces there - including Ron Townsend, reputed to be the oldest living person to have done a new route on Stanage!

Dave Turnbull, BMC Chief Executive, thanked everyone who's helped in producing the guide - and there are an enormous number - for their commitment and hard work.

Ian Carr, Chair of the BMC Guidebook Committee, outlined plans for the publication of the next crop of BMC guides that are currently in the pipeline.

Niall Grimes, BMC guidebook coordinator, handed out complimentary copies of the new book to the large number of BMC volunteers present who have contributed to the guidebook over the years.

There was even a delicious curry provided by the BMC to round off an excellent evening.
