Unwittingly climbers have been sustaining the ideal habit for the vary rare Rock Stonecrop on the approach path to Pant Ifan.

Rock Stonecrop is extremely rare and only occurs in six locations in Wales. It likes block scree, which is not acidic, such as that found below Pant Ifan.

This habitat is easily reclaimed by the encroaching woodland around it, so simply by walking up to the crag and maintaining the footpath climbers have helped to support the Rock Stonecrop's habitat.

On 17 May, Judy Yates, Mike Lewis and Mike Raine met with Countryside Council for Wales (CCW) warden Doug Oliver to tour Pant Ifan and explore any issues there may be for climbers in the National Nature Reserve. They decided there is no need for any large scale gardening or tree removal on Pant Ifan and there is currently a wide range of popular routes which are clean and accessible for climbing.  With the current level of usage these routes will stay accessible to climbers - just keep doing them!
