Calling all poetry mountaineers

Posted by Tina Gardner on 04/10/2013

An evening devoted to mountain poetry will take place at the Alpine Club in London on 12 November. If you’re into poetry or feeling inspired by yesterday's national poetry day, why not get involved?

Organiser Dennis Gray said: "I want to encourage anyone who is writing or keen on mountain/climbing poetry to come and read a couple of their works or favourites.  I guess this will be harking back to the days when mountaineering luminaries like Leslie Stephen, John Ruskin and Geoffrey Winthrop Young probably cared as much about iambic pentameters as Alpine Peaks."

If you’re interested in taking part please email Dennis at ddgray27@hotmail.com

To start the evening, Professor Terry Gifford will present a short historical introduction and in between readings there will be tracks from the Mount Everest Foundation (MEF) Wanderlust Charity CD.
