The National Final of the BMC Youth Climbing Series for 7-15 year olds took place last weekend at London's Westway Climbing Centre.
Congratulations to all 136 climbers who participated in the Final, comprising a mixture of bouldering and roped climbing. It's not the winning, it's the taking part, and the fun atmosphere generated by the climbers was clearly evident, but at the end of the day those climbers with the highest scores were acknowledged as champions. Individual Results: Girls 7-9 - Hannah Tracy - London & South East Boys 7-9 - Randy Roby - North West Girls 10 -12 - Shauna Coxsey - North West Boys 10-12 - William Peck - London & South East Girls 13-15 - Ashleigh Naysmith - Peak Boys 13-15 - Declan Stock - Peak In the Team Event, in which a region's score is the sum of the six highest individual total scores, London & South East pipped North West by a mere 18 points, with Peak not far behind in 3rd. Full results at the indoorsout website Special mention must be made of 9-year old Mehreen Akhtar from the Yorkshire and Humberside region, who become the first blind climber to reach the National Final. Mehreen discovered climbing through the Huddersfield Actionnaires Club, run by Action For Blind People. The series couldn't happen without the support of dedicated volunteers, parents, route setters and venue management. Thanks to everyone who helped to make this year's final and regional rounds so successful.
