BMC Training and Youth Committee goes online!

Posted by Jon Garside on 13/03/2008

The minutes and agendas of the BMC Training and Youth Committee will now be published online.

Ever wondered what the BMC specialist committees do? Well, over the next week or so the BMC Members Handbook will be mailed out with Summit 49, and this includes summaries of each committee's roles and responsibilities. For more definitive information read each committee's Terms of Reference, and browse through the BMC Annual Report to see what they all achieved in 2007.

But who sits on these committees? And what do they talk about? Well, if you want to know more about the inner workings of the Training and Youth Committee (TYC) have a read through the minutes of their last meeting and the agenda for their next one.

TYC is currently on the look out for new members, particularly those from under-represented groups, such as women, members of the BME community and people with disabilities. Members need to be interested in the training and youth aspect of hill walking, climbing and mountaineering.

The committee meets five times a year in Manchester and it’s area of work includes events such as the BMC Youth Climbing Series, the Student Safety Seminar, three good practice lecture series, and regional youth meets.

TYC produces a range of publications such as the forthcoming Hill Walking Essentials DVD, and good practice posters for climbers and walkers. It is also responsible for implementing the BMC’s Child Protection policy.

Membership of the committee is voluntary and the BMC cover member’s travel expenses. If you would like to know more, please contact TYC's secretary Jon Garside.
