Our autumn talent development programme kicked off with BMC National Academies in Sheffield and London.
Hot on the heels of those events, the BMC Regional Academies start this weekend at seven walls across the country.
Both programmes are are supported by Sport England, the aim being to develop talented young climbers with focused coaching.
The recent BMC National Academies were held at The Westway in London and The Foundry in Sheffield and allowed the children to gain experience of national and international competitions. At both events the twenty-plus children invited got ready as the start order was arranged, and then saw the routes demonstrated by GB Youth Team Members.
The standard of climbing was very impressive, and with GB Team Managers Ian Dunn, Tom Greenall and Lucinda Whittaker running all four National Academies, we hope that emerging talent can be spotted early on.
A team of experienced coaches supported Ian at the first round of National Academies. Read Danie Rushmer's blog about The Westway event.
The Regional Academies are more of a grass roots programme, visting 28 walls across England this autumn and next January. This is a brand new talent development programme for the BMC with over 160 children taking part.
