The BMC are launching a new coach education workshop this autumn, developed by Katherine Schirrmacher and Tom Randall.
This course completes our trio of FUNdamentals workshops and is designed for coaches working with intermediate and advanced climbers.
Katherine and Tom developed the new workshop with input from other members of the FUNdamentals of Climbing delivery team. Some minor changes have also been made to the first two FUNdamentals workshops. Together, the three workshops develop fundamental themes in a progressive manner.
The third FUNdamentals workshop is designed to educate coaches working with climbers demonstrating an an advanced level of climbing technique. A coach working at this level should have a deep personal understanding of complex techniques and have high level observational skills to analyse a climber's movement.
This course will look at what happens to body positioning and movement when hand and footholds become worse, the angle steepens and dynamic movement is employed.
In order to get the most out of this workshop participants need to be able to onsight 6b and boulder up to V3 comfortably.
Participants also need to have attended the FUNdamentals of Climbing 1 and 2 workshop to attend this second workshop.
The learning outcomes for the Fundamentals 3 Workshop are that you will be able to:
Identify and explain key biomechanical theory governing technical elements of climbing
Design and evaluate activities to explain the theory and practice of dynamic movement
Explain, demonstrate and evaluate the fundamental movement skills and principles of climbing specific to the terrain
Select, use and evaluate technology enhanced learning applications to support coaching
This workshop would be appropriate CPD for coaches working with talented climbers and coaches progressing through Mountain Training's coaching scheme.
Please note you will need the following equipment on the day; harness, belay device, climbing shoes. Tablets and smartphones may be useful for notes and filming purposes.
