Join us in the heart of the Peak District over the weekend of 15-17 April for the BMC’s AGM and annual gathering. It’s a friendly, social event for walkers and climbers who are members of the BMC.
The weekend provides a chance to talk with staff and volunteers about current work and share ideas for the future; and of course make the most of the wonderful outdoor opportunities the national park has to offer.

12.30 pm: Clubs & Huts Seminar
1.30 pm: Join Peter Judd (Peak Area Hill Walking Representative) for a walk which will leave Losehill Hall to take a journey from Limestone to Gritstone: visiting Cave Dale, Mam Tor and continuing along Great Ridge to Lose Hill; returning to the Losehill Hall in time for the evening buffet. This walk is 8 miles in length with 500 metres of ascent.
7.30 pm: Free buffet (please book in advance), announcement of the George Band Award recipient and a BMC auction with all proceeds being split between Climbers Against Cancer and the BMC’s Mend our Mountains campaign.
Sunday 17 April
9.30 am: Join us for a 10-mile walk with 650m of ascent; leaving Losehill Hall to go around the Edale Valley and up to Hope Cross; then onto and along the southern edge of Kinder Scout, overlooking the Edale Valley, to Ringing Roger, before descending to cross the valley, going over Hollins Cross and back to Losehill Hall.
12.00 pm: In a special ceremony in honour of the Peak District National Park’s 65th anniversary, a new Stanage Pole will be erected by BMC volunteers.
A wooden pole has stood on the moors close to Stanage Edge for several hundred years, marking the border of Derbyshire and Yorkshire. Some believe it could even mark the ancient frontier between Mercia and Northumbria.
The previous pole had to be removed for safety reasons last year after some of the wood rotted. Now a replacement larch tree trunk sourced from Stanage-North Lees will be hoisted into place, 65 years to the day after the Peak District became Britain's first National Park.
Over the weekend
BMC TV will be in action during the weekend with a fine selection of films to watch.
The BMC has recently instigated an exciting and important area of development to consider how to promote and develop the involvement of women in climbing, hill walking and the work of the BMC. Please contact Lynn, BMC Guidebook Committee member and volunteer (lynn.robinson@bmcvolunteeers.org.uk) for more information, or to arrange to meet up for a chat over the AGM weekend.
