The third round of the BMC Paraclimbing Series took place at the Castle Climbing Centre yesterday with a fantastic turnout and some amazing competition across 14 categories.
44 hugely enthusiastic climbers stormed into the Castle Climbing Centre in London and were faced with doing 3 very challenging boulder problems and 3 roped routes. Each climber could do the routes and boulder in any order they liked so forming a strategy dependent on their impairment and energy levels is very important in this event, and something that the regular competitors are becoming very good at.
The routes were set quite hard in order to test some very strong climbers and there were three perfect scores from Dave Bowes, Mikey Cleverdon in the NPD category and John Gale in the Mental Health category.
There were some fantastic efforts on the routes yesterday but standout performances of the day came from Hannah Baldwin in the female NPD category and Georgia Pilkington in the hearing impairment category putting in awesome climbing performances on their final routes - with Hannah falling off just short of the top, and Georgia styling her way to top out the route. Phil Mitchell's impressive effort topping his 3rd boulder problem was also very impressive.
The race for the overall series winners is hotting up now with only round left with climbers in 9 out of the 14 categories scoring ranking points at the round yesterday.
Full results from the event and the current overall scores for the series can be seen here.
The final round will be at the Newcastle Climbing Centre on the 10 December should be an awesome show down between a great group of paraclimbers that have been attending the events this year. We look forward to crowning series champions in as many categories as possible.
