Just like the England rugby union team, the new Stanage guidebook made it to the final, but came away empty-handed.
As reported earlier this week, the latest BMC guidebook to climbing in the Peak District,
Stanage – The Definitve Guide, reached the final of the Banff Mountain Book Festival. The winners were announced yesterday evening, and the festival committee chose
Deep Water, written by Mike Robertson and published by Rockfax as the best book in the Mountain Exposition category, which was won last year by the BMC guidebook
Burbage, Millstone and Beyond.
The Grand Prize went to
Forever on the Mountain, by James M Tabor, an investigation of the 1967 disaster on Mount McKinley, which took the lives of seven men. Stephen Venables won the Mountain Literature award with his autobiography,
Higher Than the Eagle Soars. Both these books are shortlisted for the Boardman Tasker Prize, which will be announced at the Kendal Mountain Book Festival on Friday 16 November.
