BMC Paraclimbing Championships - THE RESULTS

Posted by Zoe Spriggins on 28/10/2019
AU Women's Podium: Bella Walsh (1st) Georgia Gray (2nd) and AnoushΓ© Husain (3rd)

Saturday saw the National competition season draw to a close with the Paraclimbing Championships taking place at Awesome Walls Sheffield.

With climbers Cesare Cunico joining us from Italy and Eva Mol joining us from the Dutch National Paraclimbing team, not to mention the recent GB medal winners from the World Paraclimbing Championships in Briançon, the competition was set to be fierce!

Each category consisted of two qualification routes and then a final route. For the qualifications, the athletes had the opportunity to watch their route being climbed by the route setters. For the final, the athletes were in isolation and had to climb their route on sight.

There was a great atmosphere within Awesome Walls, with plenty of spectators turning up to cheer the athletes on. The route setting team consisted of Chief Simon Rawlinson, Gavin Symonds and Ben West who set technical, vertical and challenging routes for the competitors!

Special thanks goes to the route setting team for their excellent creations, the volunteers who gave up their time to belay and judge, Awesome Walls for hosting and their Awesome Staff for keeping the volunteers supplied with tea and coffee, Andy Syme, Deputy President of the BMC and all the competitors themselves.

RP1 Podium: Eva Mol (1st) Laurence Morgan (2nd) and Peter McCarthy (3rd)
