The Brit Rock Film Tour is back, and this time it’s on fire. This home-grown film tour – supported by BMC TV – has all the best new climbing films from the UK’s top adventure filmmakers.
Our legendary summer is over, and all that remains is the slow slide into winter and half-remembered dreams of summer. But resist! Fight back! It’s time to keep your climbing flame alive, and for that you’ll need to inject a serious dose of climbing psyche.
For these dark times, enter Alastair Lee. From the big walls of Yosemite to the boulders of Ireland, Al Lee is a professional at dealing out hits of adventure. And now, for his re-energised Brit Rock film tour, he’s gathered a team of the UK’s very best adventure filmmakers to craft a killer line up, which will soon blaze a trail through the UK, lighting up over 30 venues.
We spoke to Al about his feelings for this year’s Brit Rock tour:
“I’d say this is the strongest line up of UK climbing films that we've seen in a while. Teaming up with the cream of the UK's adventure filmmakers is proving to be one of the best decisions I've ever made. With the likes of the Dawn Wall and Free Solo and their enormous budgets taking the genre to the big screen, this is only good news for all adventure filmmakers.”
“On this side of the pond, we're all still operating on tiny to zero budgets and often working single-handedly but somehow the films deliver something that no amount of budget can account for: there's no substitute for a good story or passion for your work. There's no two ways about it the unique idiosyncrasies of UK climbers shine through in this epic program on the Brit Rock Film Tour. It’s looking fantastic and I can't wait to get to a screening or two."
We can't wait either.

THE LINE UP: What’s in the Brit Rock tour 2018?
Brazilian Line
A maverick bunch of Brits go big wall hunting in Brazil. Lead by pioneering legend Mike ‘Twid’ Turner with Steve Long and some youth in the form of the super-strong James Taylor and Angus Kille.
Just Anna
In an era where searching out and developing new routes seems uncomfortably out of vogue: all is not lost as we meet Anna Taylor. This remarkable Lakes-based 20 year old is bucking all the tends with stunning new sport routes and bold traditional lines
Whiz Kid: Rainshadow
In 2016 at the age of just 17, William Bosi became the youngest Brit to climb the ultimate magic grade: 9a. Whiz Kid: follows William’s journey to climb Steve McClure’s Malham test piece, Rainshadow.
Free Flow
Hazel Findlay enjoys an epic day of mountain running and solo climbing in the Welsh mountains of Snowdonia.
Undiscovered
Dave MacLeod has spent the past 25 years putting up cutting edge routes all over the world but most frequently on his native Scottish rock. Undiscovered explores the passion for pioneering first ascents and examines the effort that goes into developing new routes.
Blood Moon
The film follows Robbie Phillips, Calum Cunningham and Alan Carne as they attempt to open a new climb, ground up, on a 700m big wall; Tsaranoro Atsimo in Madagascar. The walls of Tsaranoro are as wild and bold as the country, the rock beautifully carved and the story... that of a real adventure of friends taking the risks that come hand in hand with pushing boundaries.
