New BMC Vice-President Ed Douglas.

Once again the National Mountain Centre at Plas y Brenin in North Wales provided a superb venue and sunny weather for the BMC AGM and Annual Dinner.

The AGM was held on the afternoon of Saturday 16 April. Well known-author and journalist Ed Douglas was elected as a Vice-President, replacing Rehan Siddiqui, having completed his three-year term. Rab Carrington was re-elected as President, as were Audrey Seguy and Scott Titt as Vice-Presidents and David Lanceley as Honorary Treasurer. Brian Griffiths was appointed as an Honorary Member, in recognition of his many years of voluntary service to the BMC in a number of roles including Vice-President and Honorary Treasurer. It was agreed that membership subscription rates for 2012 should remain unchanged at the levels set for 2011.

Prior to the AGM a National Open Forum meeting was held, to enable members to raise and discuss any issues not on the AGM agenda.

Between the afternoon AGM and the evening dinner, entertainment for some members was kindly provided by the Football Association in the shape of a Manchester derby FA Cup semi final, screened live in the Plas y Brenin bar.

The Annual Dinner was attended by more than 100 members and guests. Guest Speaker was Air Vice Marshall Nick Kurth of the RAF Mountaineering Association. During the dinner the inaugural presentation of the George Band Award was made to Neville McMillan and George Steele, who between them have given over 60 years of service to the BMC Technical Committee.

George Band too was recognised for his contribution to the BMC and the mountaineering community. Rab Carrington announced to the attendees that George had been appointed a Patron of the BMC, joining Alan Blackshaw, Lord Chorley, Chris Bonington and Ian McNaught-Davis in this role.

The 2012 BMC AGM will be held on Saturday 28 April, in Settle in the Yorkshire Dales.
