It was an electric atmosphere at Rockstar, Swindon for the 2022 Youth Climbing Series (YCS) Finals. In two days of fierce competition, four routes and eight boulders were contested in each category.
The YCS 2022 brought together nearly 1000 young climbers at multiple venues across Great Britain, for many it was their first taste of competition climbing. The series concluded in Swindon where 217 of the series best competed in the grand finale - all vying for those podium positions.
GB Competitions Manger, Zoe Spriggins said: “It’s been an honour to witness the standard of climbing this season. We’re really proud of all the young athletes that have given it all on the mat. We look forward to seeing what the 2023 season will bring.”
It was a golden day for Emma Little in Female A with a closely fought battle for second place between Zoe Taylor and Amy Rafferty with two points splitting them in the table. Joss Nind took a 10-point victory in Male A with Luke Young in second place and Euan Lonynd coming in third.
Hana Hunt took the top place in Female B with flashes across multiple problems seeing her take a solid first place, behind her were Lucie Hammond and Nyah Shorter. Fionn McCabe took the victory in Male B, finishing six points clear of Cameron Maclean and Reuben Langlands - both finishing with 145 points.
It was Lily Moss and Isaac Sutton who won first place in female and Male C, respectively, scoring 200 points each. Joining them on the podium Charlotte Darley (Female C), Kaila Colombus (female C), Jack Adams (Male C) and Toma Croome (Male C).
In the Female D category, Anais Bayne was unstoppable, flashing every problem and scoring 200 points. One point separated second-place Matilda Bryan from third-place Jana Smith Alferez. In Male D, Jacob Goodwin scored 200, Joshua Gale came in second, and Paul Bouwknegt finished third.
