This weekend, while their older Team members were competing and achieving great things at an EYC in Moscow, some of the very youngest members of the GB Junior Climbing Team went to Imst in Austria to take part in a well known climbing festival. Here is their Team manager's report of that event.
Ian Dunn's (GB Junior Climbing Team Manager) Report
The GB Climbing Team recommend that the young climbers who make the GB Team in Youth C category attend the Imst Youth Color Climbing Festival as an introduction to International Events.
Many other Teams throughout Europe do the same and this year there were 19 countries represented.
In the past we have had some great results and this year was no exception.
In the Youth C category (pupil) we had 6 climbers all taking part in this lead event for the first time. The age of these children is 12 or 13 years and Aiden Dunne pulled out a 5th place finish in his first year in the category. Aiden didn’t fall off anything all weekend. He just timed out on his hardest route. Let’s hope he can return next year to see if he can get on the podium, as he did last year in the younger category.
Also competing were Team members David Taylor who finished 13th Rory Cargill 17th and Hannah Slaney who finished 14th, Also attending was Emily Allen who finished 11th and Gwyneth Uttley who finished 16th and in the younger category Lydia Wright 14th
These are all really inspiring results.
To get a top 20 in this competition is really very good. That all those present did this shows that the standards in the UK are definitely rising and this offers great promise for the future.
Well done to all the Team members that took part.
The Junior British Leading Team is supported by Sherpa Adventure Gear and NICAS.
