Wild Country has announced a voluntary recall on Helium karabiners and quickdraws purchased after 15 July 2012, after it was found the affected batches did not meet the expected 'major axis' strength requirement.
The problem has been traced to an issue with the manufacturing process, which may cause the wire gate to not engage correctly with the nose of the karabiner. Although no incidents or issues in use have been reported, the possibility of affected units failing at below the expected major axis strength has lead Wild Country to issue a voluntary recall.
Customers who have purchased Helium karabiners and quickdraws after 15 July 2012 are asked to stop using them immediately, and to check to see if they are part of the affected batches by checking the batch code, which is etched on the outside of the karabiner back or spine. Affected batch codes are: MAG-T2, MMF-T2, MAH-T2, MAJ-T2, MAK-T2, MMG-T2, MMH-T2, MMJ-T2, MMK-T2.
Affected units should be returned to the point of purchase or directly to Wild Country for replacement. For more details on the returns procedure, check out the official Wild Country recall notice here.
