The British junior climbing lead team has made history by having all of its climbers qualify for the World Championships semi-finals.
The IFSC 2013 World Youth Climbing Championships are currently taking place in Central Saanich, Canada.
Pitted against some of the world's best climbing nations and climbers, the British team showed just how far lead climbing has advanced in this country by having a clean sweep in the first round qualifications on Friday and Saturday.
Elated team manager Ian Dunn praised the efforts of the team "They all climbed brilliantly and their performances fully merited progression into the semi-finals".
With semi-finals qualification achieved, the goal for the team now is to improve on it's championship best of having two finalists (in 2011 and 2012). Although this is a huge task it is well within reach if the team continues as well as it has.
Results of the first round qualifications:
Molly Thompson-Smith (Team Captain) = 13th
William Bosi = 4th
Pete Dawson = 16th
Alex Waterhouse = 16th
Jim Pope = 18th
Buster Martin = 25th
We wish the team well in their pursuit of those elusive final places. You can watch the live action tonight starting at 5.30pm UK time on
IFSC TV.
